# Consolidation

Consolidation is gathering small shipments that belong to different senders or different suppliers at one point and moving them together on a single vehicle.

Consolidation is the basis of [less than truckload (LTL)](/en/insights/less-than-truckload-ltl): each sender pays only for the part of the vehicle it uses. It also works the other way round: an importer buying from several suppliers can have all the goods collected at one warehouse and moved on a single [full truckload](/en/insights/full-truckload-ftl). That means one shipment, one customs clearance and one delivery instead of many small ones. To decide, see our [FTL vs LTL article](/en/insights/ftl-vs-ltl).
